YEAR END MESSAGE FROM SENIOR PRINCIPAL
As the academic year 2013 draws to a close, it is time for reflection on the challenges and experiences that each and every one of us has gone through with our children as we continue to journey and make plans for the New Year.
2013 has been a positive and successful year for Asia Pacific Smart School (APSS) as the school grows from strength to strength. Our past and existing students have done us proud in their academic pursuits of their pre-university programme where many were rewarded with scholastic awards prior to entry to university. We are also proud of our academic achievers in the 2012 SPM, and the recent UPSR and PMR 2013 results.
For the New Year of 2014, the National Curriculum at Asia Pacific Smart School will be based on the approved syllabus by the Ministry of Education (MOE) where we shall continue to use Bahasa Melayu as the primary medium of instruction, with the exception of Math and Science being taught in English at all levels.
The academic challenges at Primary 1 to 4 and Lower Secondary 1 to 3 will be the full implementation of the Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah (PBS) where students will be graded according to the Banding system ranging from 1 to 6 for all subjects in the curriculum. As such, these levels will only be subjected to only school-based Summative Examinations at Mid-Term and Final Year Examinations. However, the students will continuously be assessed under the PBS system, and parents will be invited to meet up with our teachers during academic sessions. The non-PBS levels i.e. Primary 5 & 6 and Secondary 4 & 5 will continue with the Formative Assessments every semester, and Summative Exams, which includes the Trial Exams for UPSR, PBSMR and SPM.
UPSR will continue to be the checkpoint for primary education, and PMR will be replaced by PBSMR, where students will be prepared for the following examination subjects under the Examinations Syndicate; Bahasa Melayu, English Language, Math, Science and Mandarin (as an elective). SPM will remain as an important certified examination under the National Curriculum. As always, our academic staff will continue to give their full support and commitment in ensuring the success of our students at all levels.
In addition, APSS will also be introducing and implementing a new and refreshing ICT curriculum designed by Computer Pioneers under the Edexcel Pearson Examination Board in the UK. This curriculum has three (3) additional modules compared to the previous NCC programme under Cambridge. They include Robotics, Model & Simulate and Computer Gaming. It is compulsory for all students from Primary 1 to Secondary 3 to have ICT incorporated into their curriculum, and they are required to sit for the school-based assessments based on the Edexcel tests after each level. As for the Secondary 4 & 5 students, they are given the option as an elective subject where they are required to sit for the external Edexcel Exam and a fee may be charged accordingly. With this new ICT programme, APSS look forward to educating the Net Generation with new technologies, and develop our students to be more creative and critical in their thinking skills.
Co-curricular Activities (CCA)
CCA will continue to be enforced as part of our school guiding principles and mission so that our students can be nurtured with the relevant knowledge, competencies, skills and attitudes for life in the global community.
All students must participate in CCA as part of APSS curriculum so that they are eligible for the CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) at the end of each academic year.
We shall continue to strive in encouraging, nurturing, and developing our children’s potentials to bring out the BEST in them.
Our appreciation and thanks to our dedicated and passionate teachers who have walked the extra mile for our students, and supportive parents who provided the encouragement and interest towards the development of the School.
We look forward to working together to a more successful and enriching academic year for our children. On behalf of APSS academic team, we would like to wish all parents and students;
“All the Best for a Successful and a Blessed New Year “.
